Ball Screw

Series Overview

The NSK ball screw range covers machine-tool (SA/SS), small-equipment (conventional FA/FS), miniature fine-lead (MA/MS), stainless (KA) and transfer (VFA/RMA/R) models, plus the separate Compact FA standard-stock family (PSS/USS/FSS).

Customization — Nahshon's Core Value

  • Spec selection based on load, travel, speed and accuracy
  • Custom end machining to your drawings, matching your bearing housings and motors
  • Lead-time coordination directly with the factory, including urgent orders

Typical Applications

  • Machine tool feed axes
  • Semiconductor and panel equipment positioning
  • Automation lines and special-purpose machines
  • Metrology and medical devices

Selection & Support

Add your travel, load, speed and mounting conditions (or drawings) to the inquiry cart — our engineers will finalize the spec and quote with the factory.

Understanding Accuracy Grades (C0–C5 / Ct7–Ct10)

Under JIS B 1192, ball screw lead accuracy falls into two systems: the C series for positioning and the Ct series for transport. NSK precision-ground ball screws come in five grades — C0, C1, C2, C3 and C5 (there is no C4) — where a smaller number means higher accuracy; rolled ball screws come in Ct7 and Ct10 (no C6/C9). In the table below, υ300 is the permissible travel variation over any 300 mm of stroke, the most intuitive figure for comparing grades (values from NSK General Catalog E3162, Tables 1.3/1.4, pages B37–B38):

GradeTravel variation υ300 (µm / 300 mm)ProcessTypical applications
C03.5Precision groundUltra-precision machine tools, laser processing, nanometer-level positioning stages
C15Precision groundHigh-precision machine tools, optical equipment
C27Precision groundPrecision machine tools, high-end metrology equipment
C38Precision groundSemiconductor/panel equipment, metrology instruments (most common precision grade)
C518Precision groundGeneral automation positioning, industrial machinery feed axes
Ct752RolledTransfer and conveying mechanisms (standard grade of the Compact FA series)
Ct10210RolledGeneral transfer and open/close mechanisms with low positioning demands

Selection guide: the first question is the application — for feed and positioning axes that must guarantee accuracy, choose from the C series; for transfer and handling mechanisms, the Ct series is the appropriate fit. Typical correspondence: C3 for semiconductor, panel and metrology equipment; C5 for general automation positioning; Ct7 for transfer mechanisms (the NSK Compact FA series is built to Ct7 as standard, axial play 0.010 mm or less). Note that cumulative travel error (±ep) grows with thread length — e.g. at 1,300 mm, C3 is ±29 µm vs. C5 ±54 µm (E3162 p. B39). Share your travel and positioning requirements with the Nahshon engineering team and we will help you select the grade that best balances performance and cost.
